A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the touch of a button. Four modes (ECO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+) alter the throttle response, shift points and steering effort, ECO Start/Stop and more. A fifth "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own, even letting you set the transmission for purely manual shifting.
A 241-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 combines numerous advances to deliver more power from less fuel. Its rapid-multispark ignition and high-pressure Direct Injection can fine-tune themselves in milliseconds. Its turbocharger spools up quickly to boost response, helping deliver all of the engine's 273 lb-ft of torque at just 1,300 rpm. Widely variable timing of all 16 valves and innovative 3-phase cooling team up to reduce emissions while raising your emotions.
With a greater range of ratios and shorter steps between gears, the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic changes gears more quickly but nearly imperceptibly. Along with more seamless delivery of power, the lighter, more versatile transmission enhances comfort and fuel-efficiency. The artful leather and aluminum electronic selector in the console and shift paddles on the steering wheel offer sporty control. And you can alter the shifting character via DYNAMIC SELECT.
Standard Torque Vectoring Brake technology provides additional control and precision in turns via targeted rear-wheel braking. If the vehicle's Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) detects understeer while cornering, the system applies the brake to the inside rear wheel, temporarily shifting torque distribution in favor of the outside wheel. This causes the vehicle to gently pivot in compensation, putting it on a line of travel, or vector, better suited to the turn.
When you remote-lock or unlock the vehicle, special filters and LED lamps beneath each side mirror project the iconic logo of Mercedes-Benz on the pavement. In addition to welcoming you in unmistakable style, the illuminated logos help you see puddles or uneven pavement as you approach your vehicle.
Transform your SLC from closed coupe to open roadster in under 20 seconds at speeds up to 25 mph. With a single button on the console, the power hardtop folds into the trunk. The rear window pivots as the top lowers to help preserve cargo space with the top stowed.
The standard 17-inch alloy wheels feature ten ultrathin, subtly tapered spokes with a luminous silver finish. Staggered in width, the rear wheels and high-performance tires are wider than the fronts, for greater acceleration grip without sacrificing crisp steering feedback.
Extend your top-down driving enjoyment further into a cool evening or later into the season with the AIRSCARF® neck-level heating system. Vents beneath each head restraint deliver warmed airflow to your neck, head and shoulders, like a virtual scarf. With individual 3-stage temperature controls and airflow automatically adjusted to your driving speed, AIRSCARF means you don't have to put the top up just because the sun, or thermometer, has gone down.
The SLC wouldn’t be a purist's sports car without a classic two-seat cockpit. Twin power sport seats envelop you and your passenger, holding you tight in corners while the open air sets you free. Headroom and outward vision are excellent even with the hardtop up. And from the silver-ringed gauges and round air vents to the metallic touch points, it all feels as good as it looks.
Featuring a crisp, large 7-inch color display and a central controller on the console, the SLC gives you convenient control of audio, video, hands-free calling and optional navigation functions. Many features can also be accessed via the integrated steering-wheel controls. The screen is designed to stay vivid even on sunny, top-down days.
An advanced voice control system lets you make easy use of the phone, audio and navigation by saying city names and your phonebook contacts normally, with no need to spell them out. You can even enter an address in one step, just like you're reading it off an envelope. You can train it to learn how you speak, and it even screens out "ums" and "ahs" and understands "yeah" for "yes."
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
In the case of a rear impact exceeding a preset threshold, NECK-PRO head restraints move forward and slightly upward, reducing the distance between the head restraints and the heads of occupants. This action helps to reduce the possibility or severity of whiplash-type neck injuries.
A pair of tubular roll bars, made of fiber-reinforced micro-alloy high-strength steel, are affixed to the car's rigid rear bulkhead. The windshield frame is also fortified with high-strength steel in its pillars.
Radar-based technology alerts you if you're approaching a vehicle ahead, or even some stationary objects, at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. As soon as the driver starts to brake, the system can automatically provide an appropriate level of braking to help prevent a collision or reduce its severity. If you fail to respond, the system can also initiate braking automatically from a wide range of driving speeds.
At most driving speeds, radar technology helps sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist then automatically alerts the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. The system also gives an audible warning if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.
